Student Achievers - Angus Tapscott
Posted on December 31, 2019
My name is Angus Tapscott.
I am eighteen years old and I am a state junior clay target shooter. I live with my parents, brother and sister on a small property at Lower Light on the Adelaide Plains.
I have been homeschooled since I was 9 years old and attended Open Access College for years 11 and 12 to achieve my SACE.
My experience at 91×ÔÅÄ...
After being homeschooled for most of my schooling years I decided I wanted to complete year 11 and 12 for future study and career options. Open Access enabled me to do this and was one of the few ways I could achieve my SACE outside of a school setting.
I completed all of my Stage 1 and Stage 2 subjects through 91×ÔÅÄ successfully. The low amount of teacher-student contact makes learning more difficult by this method, so you need to have a lot of motivation to independently study. I had to source outside tutoring in one subject which was very helpful for me.
The flexibility of studying through 91×ÔÅÄ allowed me to manage my school work load as well as pursue work, my sport and other interests.
Year 12 is a demanding year but it was worth devoting so much time to because now I can move on to begin my career in agriculture.
And today...
Achieving my SACE and a great ATAR was well worth the effort.
I am currently working in my family’s rural fencing business for 6 to 12 months before going into a traineeship with Elders Ltd. later in the year where I will study a Certificate 4 in Agriculture and receive on the job training. It will be great to see where that leads me.
